An introduction to Shibori dyeing techniques - 1-day workshops

The Japanese word “Shibori”, meaning to compress, is a 1400 year old dyeing process where cloth is shaped by twisting, folding, tying or stitching before being dyed.

My one-day workshops will give you an introduction to this fascinating art. Using dyes that can be fixed in a microwave, you will create vibrant patterns on silk using traditional and contemporary techniques. The emphasis will be on having a go and on having fun. There may also be an opportunity to use indigo or natural dyes and, if the sun shines, heliographic (sun fixed) dyes but these cannot be guaranteed and should be considered a free bonus if available.

Workshops will be held in my garden studio in Clevedon for groups of 2 to 4 people so individual attention is assured. I will provide dyes, silk fabrics for each technique demonstrated and a scarf for you to use in making your final project. Further fabrics and scarves will be available at additional cost if you wish to make more sample pieces, scarves or take some home to experiment further.

Workshops can be run on most days to suit you and your friend(s) and cost £50 per person, which also includes refreshments and a home made 2-course lunch.

If you are interested in taking a workshop and are a group of 2 to 4 people, please email me for further details.
