I have always been fascinated by textiles. How, with just a little colour, something plain can become something vibrant.

Using luxurious pure silk and traditional Shibori techniques I create patterns on fabrics to produce a unique range of scarves.

Depending how the fabric is twisted, tied, knotted, folded or distorted, depending on the range of colours used, each item will be unique – no two will be identical. Sometimes the fabric is twisted or folded several times to obtain the effect, or depth of colour I want. It is not until it is unwrapped that the true effect can be seen. It is this spontaneity that I love; revealing the unexpected I now amalgamate the conventional with the unconventional.

Sumptuous velvet fabrics and devoré techniques - a process where the velvet pile or satin face of fabrics has been removed by acid etching to give a 3d texture - are used to create a range of textured velvet scarves. Each is to my own design, hand blocked, printed or screened to make one-off or short run pieces.  Whilst patterns may be similar, the colours used are always different, because I blend my own dye colours.

Always hungry for different ways to distort, colour, create different textures …. who knows what I will discover next……! I’m sure that my work will always evolve to incorporate or blend different techniques to create unique fabrics.
